A Phenomenological Study on the Re-Employment Experience and Its Meaning of Pre-Elderly Women`s Lives

Abstract
This study investigates the re-employment experience and its meaning of pre-elderly women¡¯s lives by focusing on the participation to labor market of them in aging society using qualitative method. This study intends to provide the basic materials for the use of effective women labors and re-employment support policies to prevent the elderly poverty.
The research was carried out three times for saturation interviewing 6 married women in re-employment(as simple labors, clerks and service employees) between November 2008 and February 2010. Each interview was tape-recorded to make full use of fundamental data and the constituent of this research was came out by Giorgi¡¯s descriptive phenomenological
qualitative method. The research commenced with two questions, the one was ¡¯what is re-employment experience to pre-elderly women? and the other was ¡¯what is the meaning of re-employment experience in their lives?¡¯ The constituents of the first question were , , .
The constituent of the second question was . The first sub-constituents was , which implied the ¡¯independence¡¯ of pre-elderly women in Korea strongly signified not only household finance but also well-being of their children and family. The second sub-constituent was , which showed positive outlook for later years of pre-elderly women to strengthen their self-identity and social relations through experiencing employment. The political implications points out that pre-elderly women emerges as a new social main agent by participating in society while the breadwinner model consistently turns down. The policies for the re-employment of pre-elderly women thus are to be ¡¯custom-made¡¯ considering their ¡¯age¡¯, appropriate in career planning and relevant to education for their later years.
